Consumer Grade Encryption

Software and especially network-dependent software is evolving to be more privacy focused. On Twitter, some people I follow have shared a list of encryption-centric apps that they use. Here’s my list:

• Messaging — I still use Google Messenger and Facebook Messenger, but my immediate family and some of my friends use Signal.
• Group Chat — I’ve got Slack and GroupMe, but a couple of my special interest Facebook Groups have transitioned to Keybase.
• Email — This one is tough. Gmail is woven into my daily digital experience. I’ve started to transition some critical emails to Criptext. I’ve read good things about ProtonMail, but I haven’t used it.
• Browsers — Like Gmail, Google Chrome is the app I use most. For additional privacy and anti-tracking, I’m using Brave more. Google Chrome is still my default browser on my laptop and Brave is my default browser on my phone.
